SQL is one of the most important skills any data professional needs to master. It has always been in the top 3 most demanded skills in the job market for data science, analytics, and data engineering-related positions. This course focuses on teaching students the necessary SQL skills to filter, transform, aggregate, and join relational data and answer complex business questions.

Learning Outcome

Upon completing the course, students will be able to:

  • 01. Understand relational database systems
  • 02. Understand various use cases of SQL
  • 03. Become proficient with SQL queries
  • 04. Complete 3 SQL mini-projects
  • 05. Be confident in SQL interviews

Relational database basics

Students will learn how banks, telecom, and retail businesses use different kinds of relational database systems for CRM, Supply Chain, and Operations. Instructors will cover basic data modeling and help students understand star schema and snowflake schema, and the concept of data warehouse and OLAP cubes.

  • Different types of database systems
  • Relational database 101
  • Data modeling 101

Get familiar with various SQL applications in data science

It is important to understand where and how SQL can be leveraged for business intelligence, data engineering, and data science. Use cases of SQL in retail banking, telecommunications, retail, and human resources will be covered.

  • Get familiar with applications of SQL in banking, HR, retail, and telecommunications
  • List selection using SQL for marketing campaigns
  • BI reporting for retail business
  • HR analytics using SQL
  • Churn and survival analysis using SQL for telecom

Master SQL queries for data analysis

Practice makes perfect. Students will learn how to use SQL to extract data using SQL, transform data in various ways, and answer complex business questions.

  • Data extraction from MySQL, Redshift databases
  • Data filtering and transformation
  • Data aggregation and reporting using GROUP BY
  • Merging data from multiple tables with JOIN
  • Time series data using WINDOW function

Gain real-world experience through hands-on projects

  • Store sales and inventory monitoring analysis
  • Manage a classic retailer database
  • Retail banking campaign analysis

Practice SQL interview quizzes

Being able to pass online SQL screening tests under time constraints is a different skill. We prepare real-world SQL interview questions and quizzes for students to practice.

My work in the capital market has expanded into big data analytics; this requires us to analyze big data efficiently and accurately with better tools. This introductory course provided a practical and reasonable starting point in learning SQL and Python, which offered an exciting opportunity to develop a new perspective at analyzing financial data while also adding data science knowledge. It is really worth highlighting on their exceptional coursework developed, they are very practical and applicable in the real-world use. Right after taking the course, immediately I was able to put in practical use at work; it opened my product to transacting on portfolios in record size and allowed for more in-depth structuring capabilities. Overall, the instructor and the teaching assistant is exceptional. It was a great course, and the experience was excellent.

This is my first time taking a Bootcamp course in anything....and I'm really glad I did. I took the Data Science Toolkit course which covers Python and SQL. Not only are the instructors very knowledgeable, but the staff is also incredibly passionate about what they do. The course pace is good, easy to follow along and they're one of the few places that teach Python for Data Science over multiple bite-sized courses. I feel like I've gained a lot of useful knowledge that I can apply immediately to my job. 10/10 - already planning to take subsequent courses.

This program is fantastic! I didn't have a coding background and the way they prepared each module made it easier to understand from basic concepts to Advanced SQL and Python for Data Science that I just finished. There are still 4 modules to go before I become a Data Scientist but it is all very exciting. They really do prepare you and offer great support (includes problem sets, individually and in group and quizzes). The teachers are well connected and help you, no matter the prior experience. When you graduate, you graduate with a portfolio of projects a very good understanding academically and also hands-on practice what is important as they showcase your writing capability.
